The RNLI is the largest charity that saves lives at sea around the coasts of the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
Visit WebsiteI contributed to the development of the RNLI Callout and Messaging System (RCAMS), which was initially piloted across 50 stations in the UK. Early feedback from users highlighted that the system was difficult to use, which in turn affected the day-to-day operations of Lifeboat Stations.
A survey of 41 stations showed mixed adoption: 22 stations were using RCAMS effectively, 16 weren’t using it at all, and almost half raised concerns about usability.
RCAMS plays a critical role for the RNLI, as it is designed to contact crew members during emergencies. It also enables crew to update their availability, allowing Lifeboat Operations Managers (LOMs) to monitor crewing levels and manage station operations more efficiently.
